How Injectables Can Sculpt Your Face

How Injectables Can Sculpt Your Face

Plastic surgery can absolutely transform your facial appearance, but it comes with a long list of potential complications and significant recovery time. It’s the right approach for some, but many people want to achieve changes without downtime. Cosmetic injectables offer a different path.

If you’re interested in exploring facial injectables in more detail, the team at Her Secret MedSpa is here to provide guidance and information. You can book an in-person consultation at the Mamaroneck, New York, office in Westchester County.

What does the term “injectables” mean?

In medical aesthetics, the term injectables refers to treatments that are administered via injection. It’s loosely used as a catch-all name for treatments like Botox®, Dysport®, and a wide range of dermal fillers, including Juvederm®, Restylane®, and others.

Here, we’re going to talk about dermal fillers, a type of injectable treatment that covers a number of different brands and formulations. In general, dermal fillers are injectable substances used to add volume in targeted areas of the face.

There are many different brands of dermal fillers, and different formulations within each brand. Fillers have a gel-like consistency. Some are thicker than others, and are used to create volume in larger areas of the face, such as the cheeks. Others are thinner, and perfect for filling in smaller lines at the sides of the eyes (crow’s feet) or around the lips.

Many dermal fillers are made from a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid, a substance your body creates naturally. Over time, your body absorbs, processes, and eliminates the filler material.

What areas can dermal filler injectables improve?

Dermal fillers are a versatile treatment that can create subtle changes in the shape of your face. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, fillers can help you look more youthful or address issues like facial asymmetry.

One of the most common uses for dermal fillers is to smooth out deep lines or folds running from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Another popular use is in the folds and lines running from the corners of your mouth to your chin (marionette lines).

Fillers can also lessen the appearance of undereye bags by adding volume and smoothing skin. They’re a wonderful treatment option for wrinkles around the eyes and lips, which sometimes develop after years of smiling, squinting, or smoking.

You can also have fillers placed in your cheeks or mid-face. This helps soften the cheek hollowing that often develops as you move through middle age and beyond. As an added bonus, sagging at the jawline is often lifted when the cheeks are plumped with dermal fillers.

You can have dermal filler injectables in multiple areas during the same visit

Dermal fillers can be placed in different areas of your face during the same visit. A combination treatment will likely use more than one type of filler since some are better suited for certain uses than others.

You can even combine neurotoxin-based injectables like Botox or Dysport to your treatment session. These injectables work by temporarily preventing treated muscle fibers from going through their full range of motion, which prevents your skin from gathering into lines, folds, and wrinkles. This combination approach is commonly known as a “liquid face-lift.”

During your initial consultation, you’ll work with your practitioner to clearly define your treatment goals and decide which treatments will bring you closer to those goals. You’ll learn what to expect in terms of the timing of treatments, the cost, and how long your results will last.
